Bowling For Milton Keynes
Imagine the scene luxurious pasture, thumping music and a cornucopia of crusty rock fans in their thousands slowly being basted in the glorious Monster of Rock sunshine. Dolly was in ovine heaven. She had no need to do business at the Legal Natural Highs Stall. We had decamped once more from int top field and journeyed to the National Bowl, Milton Keynes via Swindon and a storming Mountain performance for an appointment with one Alice Cooper and this motley retinue. As evening beckoned a storming performance by Alice et al ensued as the sun sunk slowly in the west. A rainbow ballyhoo of rock fans ranging from alcohol fueled bare backed red skinned ne'er do-wells to pachouli emitting denim senior citizens via alco pop fuelled "here for Poison" yoofs were treated to a masterclass in shock rock by Alice Cooper and his band of prowling courtiers. It must have been the spontaneous roar of "We're not worthy" that preceeded I Never Cry which heralded our section of the crowd being swept up in the leather gloved hand of a master. The atmosphere was edgy, electric even as we were put to the sword by the masterful showman. Alice Cooper feeding off the thrusting melee in the crowd stage right. Winged in diamonds, canes and dollar greenbacks only helped to heighten the atmosphere. It can be reported that senior members from int top field and STUK were seen serenading the crowd during a mighty encore. The alcopops seemed horrified that a 46 year old crusty was bellowing out the words to "I wish I was born in Beverly Hills" to anyone who cared to listen. It shouldnt be allowed one pimply reprobate was heard to remark. Sotto voce.
And then he was gone speeding away in his winged chariot. (Dolly : Dear reader it seems the sun has indeed claimed another victim. Dr Cooper did in fact depart the bowl in a shiny new tourbus we know not where..)
Oh then Deep Purple played as many a weary fan were seen to head for the hills exhausted but content to have been in the presence of such a master of the grand guignol.
We enjoyed this one immensely can you tell ?
Alice was indeed as much fun as only Alice can be.
Purple were tremendous though. ;)
